Sunday at the Park

We went to the park on Sunday evening.  It was late, but it always makes bed time a little easier if we can get the kids to run around for a bit.

So the 4 of us went to "Bee Park" for some swinging and climbing.  I brought my camera but when I went to take a picture, I noticed I left my memory card at home.  Since it was just the 4 of us, a grandpa and his grandson, and a young girl babysitting a one year old boy, I put my camera on a bench while we played.  I snapped one shot with my iPhone - this picture of Chad pushing the kids.

We left the park and when we pulled in the garage, I realized my camera was still on the park bench.  Will and I went back and the camera was gone.

I tried to explain to Will that this was a sad day for me.  It's hard to be sad with Will comforting you.  "Are you ok mommy?"  "It's ok.  We will go to the camera store tomorrow and get a new one."  "Maybe the person that took it needed to take pictures."

I have wanted a new camera, but I hadn't pulled the trigger.  My Canon 30D was great!  It worked so well - I had it for 6 years so I felt I knew exactly how it all worked.  I ordered the Canon 60D and ohmygoodness, I am in love.  A lot changes in camera technology in 6 years!  I am really enjoying it and my new 50mm/1.4 lens.  I'm still getting the hang of it - the colors in my pictures are much more vibrant now than they were before!  Here she is...  (I'm waiting for this new strap from etsy!)

Here are few shots from my first 2 days with the camera.  Note, none are of Will.  When I pull out my camera, he says "No pictures.  I am working."  No idea where he got that, but I hope it doesn't last long!

sometimes it is hard to see her eyelashes b/c they are so light.  i love this picture b/c you can really see them!

Will's First Pay Day

Will had his first pay day!  Our awesome neighbors (who happen to the be the parents of a sorority sister) asked Will to water their flowers while they were on vacation.  Will loved his first official job and drowned watered their flowers everyday...sometimes twice a day.  I am happy the flowers survived the week long flood!

Will got 2 $2 bills.  They are crisp and perfect.  They aren't making them anymore so these are going back in the envelope and into his forever box!

15 Month Appointment

  I just got back from Katie's 15 month appointment.  She is doing great!  She is:
* 33 inches tall (95%)

* 27 pounds (97%)

* 47 cm (88%)

her hair is getting long!

Peek-a-Boo

 Katie recently started playing Peek-a-Boo.  It might be the cutest thing she does right now.  Or it's at least up there with the way she says "mama" or how she raises her hand up when she wants you to hold her hand or the way she nods her head no when she doesn't want something...  but I digress.

She gets the biggest smile on her face when we play.  I love the simple pleasures of kids - it definitely puts things in perspective and makes me appreciate the smallest things in life.

Katie also loves to read.  After her nap, she usually sits and reads in her room.  She prefers books that have textured things ("that's not my fairy", etc.) or ones that you can flip the flap.  So far, most of these are still intact.  I'm not sure I'll be able to say that for long!

Eye Surgery

A few months ago we noticed that Will's left eye would wander to the side when he was tired.  I asked about it at his 3 year appt, and our pediatrician recommended that we see a pediatric opthamologist.  Today we did!
Will has a muscle that is too tight in his eye - this pulls and causes his eye to wander.  To fix this, Will is having surgery on June 7.  He will have general anesthesia for a 30 minute procedure, but it has a 95% chance of fixing the issue which is great.

Will's doctor, Dr Stager, is the same doctor that performed this same surgery on Chad 20 years ago!  It worked like a charm for Chad, so here's hoping it does the same for Will!

Katie's First Puddle Stomp

 It rained today.  Will looked out his window and confirmed there were puddles.  This is the first good rain we have had since Katie has been walking, so it was time for her to put on her wellies and stomp in the puddles!

We went out to the alley and Will's buddies were already there stomping.  He took off to play so my dad and I worked with Katie to help her get the hang of it.  She was reluctant at first (as you can see on her face), but then she got the hang of it.  I'm sure this is just the first of many puddle stomping adventures to come!

Work Travels

 I had to go to Canada for work for the past few days and oh, how I missed these littles!  I have traveled 4 times in 4 months after traveling 2 times for work in 3 years!  It has been a bit crazy and hopefully it won't continue at this pace.  It is surprisingly hard to be away.

The one benefit is that I wind up spending a lot of time thinking about what I miss.  I missed Katie's snuggles, her smile, the way she snuggles in for her naps and for the night.  I missed how she reaches her hand up when she wants you to hold her hand, and I missed the time we have together most afternoons after her nap and before Will wakes up.

I missed Will so much as well but I really enjoyed talking to him on the phone.  He had lots of good questions for me about where I was, how we were going to get to the restaurant for dinner and how I was going to get home from the airport.  I am thankful for Face Time as it was so fun to see him while we talked.  I missed our talks, our songs before bed, his negotiations, and his excitement for doing anything and everything.  I missed seeing him when he would come home from the park and tell me about his day.

I loved seeing them today and seeing their big smiles and receiving some fantastic hugs.  It is good to be home!

Both kids love to clean!  I wonder if this will continue...
